SF’s Historic Golf Course Turns 100
San Francisco’s TPC Harding Park Golf Course is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. The city-owned public course, located along Lake Merced, has hosted major tournaments like the 2020 PGA Championship and the 2009 Presidents Cup. On July 18, the course will hold a centennial celebration with special giveaways for the first 200 golfers, closest-to-the-pin contests on all par 3s, and other activities throughout the year.
Originally designed in 1925 by William Watson and Sam Whiting, Harding Park has a long history as a municipal golf venue. After a decline in the late 1990s, the course underwent a major renovation starting in 2002 to restore its championship status. It’s now the only municipal course in the PGA TOUR’s TPC Network and continues to serve both local golfers and visitors.
The course includes 27 holes across multiple layouts and remains accessible with discounted resident rates and inclusive programming through the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department. Visitors can also explore the Sandy Tatum Clubhouse exhibits that showcase the course’s rich history and memorabilia from its century of play.
