When San Francisco’s brand new mini IKEA opens on August 23, 2023 at 945 Market Street, it won’t just have a standard IKEA food menu and Swedish meatballs you’re accustomed to.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the Mid Market location will also be home to the company’s first U.S. locations for both its Swedish Bite and Swedish Deli stores.

While “Swedish Deli” will serve the traditional Swedish meatballs, Swedish Bite will be located at street level and sell mostly pre-packaged and refrigerated meals. To give you an idea of what to expect, here’s a look at the “Swedish Bite” menu from one of their Japanese stores).

In addition to their famous “plant balls” and meatballs, if it’s anything like the Japan location, the Swedish Bite menu will also include plant-based lasagna and shrimp potato salad with dill mayo.

But that’s not all.

A bigger “Nordic Food Hall” is planned for a Spring 2024 opening, according to SFist.

The new Scandinavian food court, called a “Saluhall” is scheduled to open early next year along with other stores in the six-story mall. Saluhal’s menu will be 80% plant based at launch and will feature, “artisanal local food companies championing plant-based cuisine and a cookery school with a strong community focus.”
