Sports Basement is Back: Reopens All 10 Locations
On May 13th, Sports Basement announced that all ten of their Bay Area retail stores are reopening on a limited basis. The bike sales, bike shop, bike rental and nutrition departments are open for shopping.
For all other departments you’ll need to order online for their newly-started curbside pickup program
After working with Bay Area Departments of Public Health and other officials, they affirmed that our bike department, bike rental department and nutrition department are valued as essential businesses, and we feel confident in our ability to safely reopen them to the public.

While these departments have always been considered essential businesses, they decided to close on March 17th when the original shelter in place orders occurred. At that time, we felt they did not yet know how to run a store that could protect our team and our customers (which are always our number one priority).
After fifty days of research, hard work, and a lot of cleaning, they are ready to open with a comprehensive set of safety protocols:
- Mandatory masks at all times by staff and customers. Breakroom, dressing rooms, bathrooms, and offices included.
- Contactless thermometer testing at entry for all staff & customers.
- Gloves made available to all staff and customers.
- Social distancing throughout the store and entry limits for the number of customers.
- Plexiglass shields at registers.
- Sanitation stations throughout the store.
- Quarantining of returns, dressing room go backs, & store try-ons.
- Massive cleaning and sanitizing of the stores.
- Closing of public bathrooms and community areas.
- Staff break rooms have only single-serve items. Eating occurs outside the store only.
Store hours are limited to 11am to 7pm on weekdays and 9am to 5pm on weekends.
