SF’s Best Thanksgiving Weekend Walks & Hikes

Don’t let Thanksgiving gobble up your weekend – burn off that turkey with beautiful views.

While everyone is on about their “Turkey Day Diets,” my suggestion to you is eat whatever you want and work it off later. The best part about November in San Francisco is you still see the sun every day, therefore you have no excuse not to make use of that gorgeous weather and get your butt movin’.

Here are some amazing, free, and physical activities you can do with your honey, your family, or just by your own damn self in your post-turkey food hangover.

Hike up Twin Peaks for an Awesome Sunrise

If you don’t make it to the pre-Thanksgiving day sunrise hike, you can still do it on your own any day afterwards. Just make sure you wake up early enough and pick a day that Karl the Fog won’t take over! > Photo credit: Segrey Lyulchenko via youtube

Power Window-Shop on Divisadero

This is one of those walks where if you like window shopping, you might even forget you’re walking up a giant hill. And for a real thigh burning side trip walk Duboce between Divsadero and Alpine with a ridiculous 25% grade – one of the top 10 steepest streets in the city.

For 2.6 miles Divisadero crosses through NoPa, historic houses you can’t afford in Pacific Heights, Cow Hollow and the Marina with a gorgeous end point at the water by Marina Green.

Hike Golden Gate Park End-to-End

Aren’t the holidays just another excuse to drink excessively? Bring a flask for a secret mid-hike shot of booze at the windmills. Continue the booziness while you’re being “outdoorsy.” > Photo Credit: killenmonsters

SF City Guides Walking Tours

Free guided walking tours of San Francisco take place all over the city and are pretty much offered every day. They are generally low impact, but are a good way to get on your feet after stuffing yourself silly all Thursday.

There are tons of tours over the holiday weekend – 41 walks to choose from, in fact.  So pick out a neighborhood and learn yourself some crazy new SF facts. sfcityguides.org > Photo credit of Sutro Height Park earth-photography.com

Hike to Mount Sutro’s Bench for an Epic Sunset

Mount Sutro, located just south of UCSF, is nearly completely forested, save for a glorious bench with the best view. There are many different trails you can take up the mountain, so you can opt for a quick stroll, or a longer trek.

For a longer walk, start at 7th Avenue in the Inner Sunset, and hike all the way up the mountain. If you’re lucky, you’ll come across a bench that faces the ocean at the Western edge of the Historic Trail. If you need to get away from your family for a minute, this is the spot for you. About Me: Writer, photographer, eater, wig-wearer, donut enthusiast, dog whisperer, and friend to strangers. I follow my Crazysash World Adventures wherever those may take me, and right now, I’m letting the adventure continue in my favorite city in the world: San Francisco.

Why San Francisco? San Francisco is filled with magic. It’s also filled with a lot of human feces, some yuppy tech-stars, and plenty of weirdos. But more importantly, it’s filled with a lot of love, and it’s the best place to be alive.
