Top Five $5 Deals at YBCA

See innovative art and performances on the cheap with Muni & Foursquare deals and special $5 events at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts.

From $5 deals, Muni discounts, cheap concert & dance performances and more to one of San Francisco’s most innovative galleries and performance spaces, check out Yerba Buena Center for the Art’s list of their Top Five $5 Deals from their upcoming event calendar.

1) Get half-priced tickets for $5 to performance troupe Big Art Group’s new work, “The People: San Francisco.”

A site-specific, outdoor extravaganza combining live theater with large, real-time video projection, you can use the promo code “PLAY” when ordering online, by phone (415-978-ARTS) or at the box office, for this special two-night show on Friday, September 16  and Saturday, September 17 at Z Space.

2) Check in at YBCA on Foursquare and get $2 off films/videos, which are regularly $7.

This means you can watch all of the films remaining in their “Smut Capital of America” series, including “The Meatrack” (August 5), “Streetwalkers and His Father’s Call Girl” (August 11) and “Resurrection of Eve” (Aug 25), as well as come to their free Wildcard Night with surprise smutty film line-up.

3) Show your MUNI transfer, monthly pass, or Clipper card for $5 gallery admission.

Visit or re-visit the Bay Area Now 6 visual exhibition, open through September 25.

4) Included with $5 gallery admissions are BAN6 Thursday Artist Series events.

Chris Sollars on the Art of Hair (Aug 11, pictured right); Ranu Mukherjee’s dubstep DJ party (Aug 25); Mauricio Ancalmo’s light/sound performance (Sept 8); and metal bands playing in front of Ben Venom’s heavy metal quilt (Sept 22).

5) Thrifty Thursdays: $5 Performance Tickets

All seats are $5 for Congolese choreographer Faustin Linyekula’s concert & dance piece “more more more… the future” on September 29, as well as for “rbGb,” Oakland-based artist and National Poetry Slam winner Marc Bamuthi Joseph’s new multimedia performance, on October 13.
