San Francisco birdwatchers are in a frenzy due to a rare sighting of a Slate-throated Redstart, a bird never before seen in California.

Thanks to ABC7 for sharing the news about the unusual sighting of the bird spotted in Pine Lake Park, near Stner Grove. The bird is typically found in Mexico and Central America; experts aren’t sure why the bird has made it to San Francisco.

The red-bellied bird is receiving national attention after being featured on American Birding Association’s podcast. SF Gate has noted that not only have local bird watchers been flooding the park to catch a glimpse, but some bird afficiando has even flown across the country to spot the bird in San Francisco.

Pine Lake is one of the few remaining natural lakes in San Francisco. If you pay a visit to the bird, please be respectful to the bird and its habitat.
