Winter Candlelight Tours of Fort Point

A rare chance for free nighttime tours of SF’s historic Civil War-era fort.

Explore the historic Civil War-era Fort Point by candlelight and the stars on an evening tour with a park ranger as your guide.

Candlelight tours are available most Saturday evenings typically around 6:30 pm from November to February.

Along the way, you’ll be transported to the momentous era of the 1800s, experiencing first-hand the tales and valiant stories that once graced the halls of an unwavering guardian, watching diligently over the treasured Golden Gate. This program may not be suited for children under the age of 10.

People interested in the lottery for the Candlelight Tours can enter multiple ways during the entry period:

1. Visit the fort and and talk to a ranger, 999 Marine Drive, San Francisco, CA 94129
2. Call the Fort Point Special Programs Line, 415-504-2334
3. Go to the online entry form through the NPS website.

The NPS will be contacting winning entries once the lottery is closed. Winners will be randomly chosen to ensure the best accuracy and odds for many people as possible to attend. If you don’t hear back from the NPS then you didn’t win a spot.

About Fort Point: From its vantage point overlooking the spectacular Golden Gate, Fort Point protected San Francisco harbor from Confederate & foreign attack during & after the U.S. Civil War. Its beautifully arched casemates display the art of the master brick mason from the Civil War period.

Directions: Fort Point is located at the south anchorage of the Golden Gate Bridge at the end of Marine Drive on the Presidio of San Francisco. By public transit, San Francisco Muni 28 and 29 bus routes stop at bridge toll plaza. Follow trail signs northeast of plaza area to Fort Point at base of bluffs.
