SF’s WWII Ship SS Jeremiah O’Brien Reopens July 2
The SS Jeremiah O’Brien will re-open to the public on July 2, 2021, after over a year with the pandemic, fire and recovery efforts keeping it closed.
Built in S. Portland Maine and launched June 19, 1943, the O’Brien had a distinguished wartime duty. She participated in the D-Day invasion in 1944.
The SS Jeremiah O’Brien is one of two remaining fully functional Liberty ships of the 2,710 built and launched during World War II. The O’Brien has the distinction of being the last unaltered Liberty ship and remains historically accurate.
Where is the SS Jeremiah O’Brien? The ship is moored at Pier 45, Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco
A living museum on the National Register of Historic Places and a National Historic Landmark, the O’Brien transports you back almost seven decades to when sailors braved the harshest of high seas and threat of enemy attack.
