Kurt Weill (1897–1950) and Friedrich Holländer (1896–1976) were German composers who achieved fame during the Weimar Republic but had their careers cut short by the rise of the Nazis and were forced into exile. Both were known for their contributions to cabaret, revue, theatre, and film music, with Weill famously collaborating with Bertolt Brecht on works like The Threepenny Opera and Holländer writing iconic songs for Marlene Dietrich, such as “Falling in Love Again” from The Blue Angel.
About the Artists:
As a vocal artist and cabaret performer, Ms. Shannon Wolfe delights in the art of singing and storytelling using the Great American Songbook as her muse. She is the creator of numerous cabaret shows including Femme Fatale: A Film Noir Cabaret; Kurt Weill + Songs from the Weimar Cabaret, Sinatra and Shore: A Centennial Tribute; You’d Be Surprised a Tribute to Irving Berlin, all showcased at both Stookey’s Blue Room and Society Cabaret in downtown San Francisco. Ms. Wolfe is host of the monthly Stookey’s Open Mic for Singers and she is one half of the comedic jazz cabaret duo, Sophisticated Ladies, whose harmonically rich shows: Take the J Train and Shiny Stockings delight audiences with songs from the Art Deco era and the tunes of Tin Pan Alley. www.shannonmariewolfe.com
