Event Details

Ando, the renowned skateboarding and culture photographer known for capturing the best skaters and souls of cities around the world, is set to unveil an innovative arts activation, BEHIND THE CURTAIN, presented in association with non-profit organization Value Culture at the Institute of Contemporary Art San Francisco (ICA SF), 901 Minnesota Street, San Francisco, Saturday August 19th, 2023, 5pm-9pm.

BEHIND THE CURTAIN is a one day only interactive photo installation featuring photographers from all over the globe. It evolves over the night through a constant rotation of photographs to become only a memory of those who were there to witness it.

The program will feature works from: Ando, Charles Fabbiani, Jordan Hill, Alex Papke, Andrea DoSouto, Cris Bravo, Ryan Garshell, Jason Fong, Ken Goto, Lindsey Byrnes, Marcell Turner, Nestor Judkins, Nora Lalle, Rhonda Smith, Sean Silk, Vikram Valluri, Waylon Bone, Dylan Maddux, Dennis McGrath, Jason Henry, Liza Cueva, Ariel Gomez and Ricky Powell. Sponsors include Tolago and Pink Bird Production.

BEHIND THE CURTAIN is featured by ICA SF as part of the second iteration of Meantime — an ongoing series of pop-ups, performances, artist residencies, and workshops taking place in advance of fall exhibitions. The Institute of Contemporary Art San Francisco (ICA SF) is a brand new, free, non-collecting contemporary art museum dedicated to experimenting in public, operating transparently, and embracing constant reinvention in the realm of contemporary art.

“I’m doing this with Value Culture and ICA SF to give a platform to expose people to incredible photographers they should know about in a museum setting. I want to build community and inspire people to create selflessly. On top of that many of these photographers have inspired and helped me along my career.” said Ando, “The way we’re doing this will surprise people. It’s a different experience.”

Ando (Andrew Caulfield) is a born and raised San Francisco based photographer, capturing skateboarding, and the in between moments.
