Day of the Dead Celebration at County History Museum (San Mateo)
San Mateo County History Museum | 2200 Broadway Street, Redwood City, CA
Event Details
On Sunday, November 3rd, the San Mateo County History Museum and Casa Círculo Cultural present the 13th annual Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration inside the Museum and outside on Courthouse Square.
This FREE event takes place inside from 4 to 8 p.m. Visitors are invited to make their own thematic crafts, including clay calaveras (skulls), paper flowers and more. A community altar exhibition will be displayed in the History Museum’s beautifully restored Courtroom A. The altars reflect the deep traditions and symbolism of Día de los Muertos, offering visitors an intimate look into how death is respected and acknowledged as part of life. The altars will be on display from November 3rd through the 8th. Admission to the History Museum will be FREE a second time, on Friday, November 8. The Museum’s Day of the Dead activities are sponsored by Monterra Credit Union.
Just outside the History Museum, on Courthouse Square, Casa Círculo Cultural will highlight the interplay between life and death. This will be brought to life through live performances, traditional Mexican music and dance, authentic Mexican cuisine, a handmade crafts market, and a grand procession. The Chalk Aisle, managed by Redwood City Parks and Art Foundation, will feature vibrant chalk art expressing artists’ interpretations of life, death and cultural heritage.
