Event Details

Climate Rights International (CRI) is proud to present Degrees of Hope and Panic, a sharp and thought-provoking staged reading that blends satire and storytelling to explore climate change, human rights, and the choices we make for our future.

Set in a college classroom, the play follows students as they wrestle with the complexities of the climate crisis. Through heated debates, personal revelations, and surreal journeys through time and space, Degrees of Hope and Panic takes the audience on an unforgettable ride. You’ll build sustainable housing with the Three Little Pigs, greenwash fences with Tom Sawyer, and confront the reality of living in a world on fire—both literally and metaphorically. As the students’ perspectives evolve, they underscore the power of hope, resilience, and the urgent need to put human rights at the center of climate action.
Why a play? Because facts and figures alone won’t move people to action. Theater can challenge, inspire, and make us laugh while doing the hard work of building a better future. It’s also a lot easier than reading a 200-page report.
Following the performance, join us for a post-show discussion with the playwright and climate advocates to explore the themes of the play and how storytelling can drive change.
