Downtown Oakland is the new home for something that’s never been seen before: Chapter 510 & the Department of Make Believe, a youth writing center combined with an interactive storefront specializing in magical bureaucracy. It’s about time.
Come support those Oakland students and celebrate their city’s incredible creativity at Chapter 510’s First Friday Open House on Friday, November 6 from 5pm – 9pm.
The Writing Sanctuary will be buzzing with bookmaking, mask-making, and whatever the verb is for drawing inspirational pictures involving rocket ships and block letters on a giant chalkboard wall.
Plus, the Department of Make Believe will be open for business throughout the event issuing Permits to Make Believe and Licenses to Dream. Get signed off on all your flights of fancy. According to the data-loving clerks in the Division of Creative Data Analysis, here are 5 other reasons to visit this center of fantastical bureaucracy:
- Enter your deepest desires into the Manifestation Record.
- Fill out a form (number Q pencils only).
- See the November Dreamer of the Month and vote for December’s.
- Take a number. Will it be 4? Or 9,998,383,750,000? Only one way to find out!
- File any Frequently Asked Questions and/or Rarely Given Answers with the Division of Superhuman Resources.
Excited? Confused? Hungry? Perfect. Visit the open house to discover what Chapter 510 & the Department of Make Believe are all about, how to use them as a community resource, and how to get more involved.
Plus, find out all about their upcoming Indiegogo campaign and how you can help support their mission of developing youth writing and literacy in Oakland.
