Event Details

Redwood City’s beloved Día de los Muertos celebration returns to downtown on Sunday, November 8, 2026, bringing the community together at Courthouse Square for a vibrant celebration of remembrance, heritage, and culture. Hosted by Casa Círculo Cultural and the San Mateo County History Museum, in collaboration with the Redwood City Parks & Arts Foundation, the annual celebration invites visitors to experience the traditions and evolving cultural expressions of Día de los Muertos in the heart of Redwood City.

This year’s celebration is inspired by Tlaxcala, a region of Mexico rich in Indigenous heritage, history, and vibrant traditions. Each year, Casa Círculo Cultural selects a region or theme of Latin America with a meaningful connection to Día de los Muertos, using its customs, colors, and symbolism to honor those who came before us and explore the enduring connection between past and present.

Taking place at Courthouse Square on Broadway Street between Hamilton Street and Middlefield Road, the celebration will offer a colorful and immersive experience centered on remembrance and community. Visitors will discover vibrant sugar skulls, marigolds, and dozens of family altars, each offering a personal tribute and telling the stories of loved ones who have passed. Inside the San Mateo County History Museum, a free exhibition of community-created ofrendas will be on display. Families can also enjoy hands-on activities for children, including sugar skull workshops and chalk art. Throughout the celebration, a festive food court adorned with papel picado will offer traditional dishes, while elegant Catrinas make their way through the square, adding to the colorful atmosphere.
