Freespace Pop-Up Community Center

Freespace is a pop-up community center focused on hacking the civic experience. It is hosted in a 14,000 sqft warehouse in S0Ma, San Francisco, envisioned and implemented entirely by you.

Freespace was originally just a one month project, but it was extended to two months thanks to successful Indiegogo campaign. They’re now open periodically (check their schedule). They host a wide array of events and projects like classes, music, art, silent discos, yoga, a free bikeshare, community engagement and field trips, and more than a few silly costumes.

Check in your smart phone at the door and prepare for a full night of old fashion fun without everyone having their noses buried in their phones all the time.

Join “Digital Detox;” sort of like a summer camp for adults, it’s a night to unplug (literally) and connect the old-fashioned way with board games, communal art, free live hand-drawn portraits, conversation prompts, an outdoor campfire (the city said no fires… boooo) but there’s still s’mores and a sing-a-long, an analog zone with typewriters, arts & crafts, and tons more.

The venue is awesome; it’s three stories inside with an outdoor garden and performance area. And best of all, we’re told that everything is free, even the snacks, drinks and massages.
