Event Details

Freespace Pop-Up Community Center

Freespace is a pop-up community center focused on hacking the civic experience. It is hosted in a 14,000 sqft warehouse in S0Ma, San Francisco, envisioned and implemented entirely by you.

Freespace was originally just a one month project, but it was extended to two months thanks to successful Indiegogo campaign. They’re now open periodically (check their schedule). They host a wide array of events and projects like classes, music, art, silent discos, yoga, a free bikeshare, community engagement and field trips, and more than a few silly costumes.

DIY Bike Spoke Cards | Freespace Pop-Up Community Center

Bikes are a prominent feature in the streets of San Francisco and in the hearts of its residents. Let’s decorate them, let’s speak through them, let’s make them our own and use them as metavehicles.

Join a group of people making and trading bike spoke cards. They’ll provide block printing supplies, glitter, markers, scissors, glue, cardboard and clear tape for lamination. Participants should bring whatever else excites them or would help them feel more comfortable like left handed scissors.

They’ll start with a little kick-off for everyone to introduce themselves, state their intent, and allow collaborations to form. They’ll make cards for an hour. Everyone will be asked to make as many cards as there are participants. Then they’ll have a debrief to show off the work and trade them around. If there are 22 participants, each person will leave with 22 cards to give friends, family and strangers.
