CANCELED: East Bay Burner Social | Oakland
> EVENT UPDATE: This event is no longer taking place.
East Bay Burners are a group of Burning Man devotees who all live around the East Bay and get together monthly to talk, exchange ideas, teach, learn and have fun.
The East Bay Burner Social takes place monthly in the run-up to the festival and features a different speaker or topic of discussion each time. The group is a great way to meet new Playa friends, or if you’re a beginner, to figure out what Burning Man is all about.
The East Bay Burner Socials are family friendly (kids welcome) wheelchair accessible, and to facilitate discourse, don’t have loud music.
For the June 20 East Bay Burner art event they’re very excited to bring in a panel of folks that every Burner relies on, but too often doesn’t know about.
Black Rock City is similar to any other city in that it is run by highly dedicated, but often invisible people. These are the people who make the artist’s work possible; they bring large cranes and other equipment to put large scale pieces together, help us find and understand the art we see, and try to keep us from catching on fire when art is burned.
These hard working crews include:
- Fire Arts Safety Team
- Greeters
- Gate
- Playa Restoration
- Rangers
- Volunteer Resource Team
- Media Mecca
- Census
- Earth Guardians
The Burning Kitchen team provides food for a donation that will go toward funding playa art: The Alien Siege Machine and The Kraken.
Prior to the main event, at 6 pm they’ll be holding an orientation for newbies or oldbies alike in our newcomer seminar series The Burn Starts Here. This week we’ll be discussing Physical and Mental Preparedness.
