WHAT:
GLIDE Memorial Church invites congregants, neighbors and the wider community to its second annual virtual Easter Celebration on Sunday, April 4, for messages of liberation and hope as a newly independent church. The morning’s events will include a 6:30 am Prayer Circle with a live reading of the congregation’s prayers from the week; and a 7:00 am Sunrise Celebration featuring the liberation stories and songs of the church. The Celebrations at 9:00 and 11:00 am will be a special blend of live and archival music from the GLIDE Ensemble and The Change Band led by music director Vernon Bush and a special liberation sermon by GLIDE’s Minister of Celebration, Marvin K. White. The community is welcome to participate by sharing their own stories of spiritual and emotional resurrection in the interactive, live comments section of the broadcast, during a rousing morning of stories and song. Also included in the morning’s festivities will be a downloadable PDF coloring book for the GLIDE Kids (and kids of all ages) created from images of Reverend Cecil Williams in his classic dashikis through the years, and a virtual Easter Egg Hunt for digital eggs throughout Celebration.
There are a number of ways to join: GLIDE’s Facebook Livestream page, GLIDE Church’s YouTube channel, glide.org, Podomatic, or by calling (toll-free): (855) 412-3177.

“GLIDE Memorial Church is emarking on a remarkable new era,” said Minister Marvin K. White. “And Easter not only provides the theme of new life but is the quintessential GLIDE Church and Tenderloin story. Every time a meal is served at GLIDE, it’s someone’s last supper. Every time someone joins a Sunday Celebration, they know that they have not been passed over, and that there is a beloved community waiting for them, not to die, but to live.” At the time of the first Easter Celebration Online in 2020, GLIDE Church and its community had just entered the COVID era, while crying for justice for the killings of unarmed black people and resisting the oppressive policies and practices of the previous administration. Though the struggle continues, in just one year, things have changed. What was left for dead, is not. GLIDE Church celebrates the changes that are bursting forth spiritually and creatively in community, politics, racial and social justice, and in health. During the Easter Celebrations, GLIDE will commemorate this moment in history as beloved community. Though the road has been long, GLIDE Church is thankful for the family that they travel with hand-in-hand. GLIDE invites all to join!
