ARTIST STATEMENT
This series explores vulnerability through dynamic portrayals of nude bodies, using minimalism to emphasize both the figure and empty space. The gold leaf represents a suspended, light body in limbo, symbolizing my journey through mental health challenges and recovery. As I embrace a peaceful but unfamiliar state of mind, this series reflects my personal struggle and quest for balance. Through figures both masked and unmasked, I examine the tension between concealment and openness. The inclusion of vejigante masks, representing my puertorican roots, highlights themes of protection and freedom, prompting a conversation about the complexity of being seen. I hope to evoke empathy and invite viewers to appreciate the balance between aesthetics and emotional depth. By making this work accessible, I aim to connect with a broader audience and share the transformative experiences embedded in each piece. “Echoes” series is an exploration of the fluid, evolving nature of identity.
