Join us at Mrs. Dalloway’s Bookstore on Thursday September 17 at 7:00 PM when famed poet ELIZABETH METZGER comes to the store to share her latest collection The Going Is Forever. Elizabeth will be joined by JESSE NATHAN and will sign copies of her book after the presentation.
Celebrating the ordinary and extraordinary changes we undergo together, this poetry collection explores our most surprising fantasies and deep spiritual yearnings. An honest, intricate, and breathtaking distillation of love’s true nature, The Going Is Forever reminds us that our closest relationships contain endless mysteries, and that there is never just one version of a life.
ELIZABETH METZGER is the author of The Going Is Forever and Lying In, as well as The Spirit Papers, winner of the Juniper Prize for Poetry. She has published two chapbooks, Bed and The Nutshell Studies of Unexplained Death. Her poems have recently appeared in The New Yorker, The Paris Review, The New York Review, TLS, and Poetry. She is a poetry editor at The Los Angeles Review of Books and teaches poetry at 92NY and Columbia University.
JESSE NATHAN’s poetry has appeared in the New Republic, the New York Review of Books, Alta, Poetry, and the Paris Review. His debut collection Eggtooth won the New Writers Award, the Housatonic Book Prize, and was a finalist for the Golden Poppy here in California. Jesse’s latest collection of prose and interviews, One Question, was published in April 2026 and he has a forthcoming book of poetry The San Francisco Poem. Jesse teaches literature at University of California, Berkeley.
