Event Details

Join the formal opening for The Bone Room’s new show,Emerging from the Underworld: Portraits of Wild Mushrooms,” which will run from May 2-July 1, 2013.

The opening will take place on May 2, 2013 starting at 7 pm, and there will be free wine, pizza, and calamari.

These works by Lucy Martin, a mixture of original paintings and archival-quality prints, celebrate the amazing diversity of the fungus kingdom. Lucy’s art focuses on mushrooms and other strange and beautiful life forms found in the forest.

Lucy Martin’s paintings are detailed evocations of the cycle of life: new life emerging from death and decay. The mushrooms are shown as very much part of their natural environment, rather than as isolated specimens, so that the paintings may include dead leaves, fir cones, bark and moss, as well as a burned log or a lichen-covered stump. Each painting is a small landscape of the forest floor, and a reminder of what we can see, if we only look closely.
