Epic Film Night | Awesöme Orchestra | Epic Free Classical Concerts
Ever wanted to watch your favorite movies with a live symphony orchestra playing the soundtrack? Come hear Awesöme Orchestra. the Bay Area’s premiere adventure-seeking orchestra, play excerpts from four epic film scores by John Williams, Alan Silvestri, and Joe Hisaishi at The New Parkway on July 4 as part of Oakland Art Murmur.
Seating begins at 6:15 pm. You can also play with the orchestra, but you must RSVP.
Repertoire and schedule for the session are as follows:
6 pm – Arrive promptly at The New Parkway to unpack your instruments. Once they’re ready, they’ll run through the 20th Century Fox Fanfare, head to the corner of Telegraph, and play as a mini-flashmob (ideally from memory) to get everyone’s attention and bring them back to the theater with the group.
6:30-8:30 pm – Head back to The New Parkway for the main event:
– Alan Silvestri – Forrest Gump (suite)
– John Williams – The Forest Battle (from Star Wars: Return of the Jedi)
– Joe Hisaishi – Princess Mononoke (suite)
– John Williams – E.T. Adventures on Earth (suite)
8:30 pm- Pack up, finish the keg of Lagunitas and head out to see the fireworks
Contact your ambassadors for any questions about part assignments.
As always, they’ll provide music, chairs, and free drinks for all players. Plus, players can order food from The New Parkway’s cafe full menu and even have it delivered to your instrument section while playing. Just make sure to bring a music stand (and a stand light if you think you might need it, though light levels will be normal).
