Bay Area 1880s Vintage Baseball “Golden Gate Cup” Finals Weekend (GG Park)
EVENT UPDATE: There are no upcoming events known for this event series - please check the organizer website for any updates.
The Bay Area Vintage Baseball Golden Gate Cup is upon us!! All games are free to watch and take place at the Big Rec baseball fields in Golden Gate Park. There is plenty of seating in the stands, and this is a great opportunity to bring your family and a picnic for some old timey baseball!
The semifinal teams will be determined by the quarterfinal winners on September 22nd – final matchups will be posted on the website.
September 28th (Semifinals) – Games at 12pm and 3pm
September 29th (Final) – Game starts at 12pm
The rules are listed on the website, but some major differences include:
~ 7 balls to get a walk
~ The striker (batter) requests either a high or low strike zone
~ Getting hit by a pitch just counts as a ball
~ Foul tips do not count as strikes
~ All players are wearing 1880s appropriate gear which means a lot less padding in the gloves and the bats are a lot heavier
~ The sir (umpire) often wears a 3-piece suit and a top hat!
The Golden Gate Cup is the end of the season so don’t miss your chance to enjoy some vintage baseball or you may have to wait until next year!
