2019 Blessing of the Fishing Fleet | San Francisco

The festival of “La Madonna Del Lume” (also known as “The Blessing of the Fishing Fleet”) is a Sicilian tradition of protecting fishermen that have been practiced in San Francisco for 84 years.

The 84th annual blessing and fishing boat parade is an annual procession from St. Peter and Paul’s Church in North Beach down to Fisherman’s Wharf with a blessing of the fleet and a fishing boat parade and Memorial Ceremony at sea.

2019 Schedule

Saturday, October 5, 2019 (10 am to 2 pm)

  • 10 am – 11 am Memorial Mass at the Chapel, followed immediately by Memorial Flower Ceremony at Sea.Fishing Vessels please join for the Fishing Boat Procession from Pier 43 1/2 to just beyond the Golden Gate for the Ceremony.

Sunday, October 6, 2019 (11:30 am to 9 pm)

  • 11:30 am – High Mass & Crowing of Celebration Queen at SSPP, North Beach
  • 12:30 pm – Spuntino in the Church Gym
  • 1:45 pm – MDL Procession starts in front of the Church
    Procession travels down Columbus Ave, thru Fisherman’s Wharf and will conclude at the Fishermans and Seamen’s Memorial Chapel at Wharf, Pier 45.
  • 2:45 pm (approx) – Blessing of the Fishing Fleet at Chapel at conclusion of the Procession.
  • 4:45 pm – Family Dinner at the SFIAC
