2018 Blessing of the Fishing Fleet | San Francisco
The festival of “La Madonna Del Lume” (also known as “The Blessing of the Fishing Fleet”) is a Sicilian tradition of protecting fishermen that have been practiced in San Francisco for 83 years.
The 83rd annual blessing and fishing boat parade is an annual procession from St. Peter and Paul’s Church in North Beach down to Fisherman’s Wharf with a blessing of the fleet and a fishing boat parade and Memorial Ceremony at sea.
Saturday, September 29 (10 am to 2 pm)
- 10 am – Memorial Mass at the Fishermen’s and Seamen’s Memorial Chapel in Fisherman’s Wharf, immediately followed by the fishing boat procession from Pier 43 1/2 and the Memorial Flower Wreath Ceremony just beyond the Golden Gate to honor those who have perished or been lost at sea.
Sunday, September 30 (8:30 am to 11:30 pm)
- 11:30 am – High Mass at SS Peter and Paul Church, North Beach, followed by Spuntino
- 1:45 pm – Procession from Church to Fisherman’s Wharf and the Blessing of the Fishing Fleet Ceremony at the Fishermen’s and Seamen’s Memorial Chapel at Pier 45.
- 4:45pm – The Festa weekend concludes with a Reservations Only dinner back in North Beach, featuring dance tunes and entertainment with DJ Tommy Fullove. RSVP by 9/15.
