Oakland’s “Live in The Laurel” Music Fest 2023 (May 19 – Oct. 28)

The Live in The Laurel offers outstanding locally-based live music in The Laurel district of Oakland. Each month, explore some rising stars and local favorites as they perform free shows in intimate venues along MacArthur Boulevard. Visitors are invited to dine at participating restaurant venues during the shows or at one of the many Boulevard restaurants before or after each show.

On Friday, May 19, the 2023 series kicks off with a performance by Laura & Anton from 5pm-7pm at Vetiver. Laura Weinbach and Anton Patzner of Bay Area indie art-pop group Foxtails Brigade, strip down from their usual full-band arrangement to a minimal two-piece guitar, violin, and voice duet. Both seasoned players have toured Europe and the US, sharing stages with countless bands from the likes of Tune Yards, Bombino, Jane Birkin, Bright Eyes, The Faint and more. They are featured in the film Blind alongside Alec Baldwin and Demi Moore.

The Live in The Laurel series is a unique concept in that it brings live music to visitors and the local community through activating non-traditional venues along a bustling commercial corridor. The shops and restaurants along MacArthur Boulevard are opening their backyards, patios, and parking lots to host performers in comfortable, outdoor settings. Depending on the location, venues can accommodate between 50 and 200 attendees.
