“A Record Is A Record” Superior Viaduct Pop-Up Shop

A Record is a Record is a Superior Viaduct Pop-Up Shop which takes place from March 1-31, 2014.

During the run of the show, Superior Viaduct will feature the work of photographer Ruby Ray, screen films by renowned minimalist composer Phill Niblock, and present a series of live performances including legendary sax player Roscoe Mitchell, dissonant acoustic guitarist Bill Orcutt, and more.

Schedule of Events

  • Saturday, March 1 (6-9 pm) – Opening reception, screening six films from 1966-69 by Phill Niblock (Morning, The Magic Sun, Dog Track, Annie, Max, and Raoul)
  • Saturday, March 8 (1-5 pm) – Record swap co-sponsored by Stranded Music (Oakland) and Explorist International (San Francisco)
  • Saturday, March 15 (6-8 pm) – Live performance by Roscoe Mitchell (The Art Ensemble of Chicago)
  • Saturday, March 22 (6-8 pm) – Live performance by Bill Orcutt (Harry Pussy)
  • Saturday, March 29 (6-9 pm) – Closing party with Circuit des Yeux

Superior Viaduct is a San Francisco based record label that focuses on curated reissues of art-punk, free jazz, and 20th century experimental music. Releases include The Residents, Glenn Branca, DEVO, soundtracks to Andrei Tarkovsky’s films, and Fluxus artist Henry Flynt — several of which were featured as Top Archival Releases of 2013 by publications such as The Wire and Fact magazine.
