SF Public Canvas: Aerial Dance Over Downtown SF
EVENT UPDATE: There are no upcoming events known for this event series - please check the organizer website for any updates.
The Bay Area’s premier vertical dance company Bandaloop, will present open rehearsals of a new multi-media project titled #SFPublicCanvas, in collaboration with Illuminate the Arts and Jonathan Rowe of Madrone Studios.
An open source digital media canvas will be integrated with vertical dance on the outside of Hastings Law School at 333 Golden Gate Ave. in San Francisco’s Mid-Market district.
Bandaloop will be performing at 8 pm each night from Wednesday to Saturday, April 1 – 4, 2015.
These open rehearsals are free to watch. Bring mats, beach chairs or blankets for best and most comfortable viewing.
#SFPublicCanvas is a “many-to-many” conversation based in art and technology that is a “canvas” for performance and storytelling. The public is invited to contribute to #sfpubliccanvas through social media using #sfpubliccanvas on any platform as well as through live interviews. Residents, tourists, homeless, business owners and the general public can submit video stories, photos and words that will be integrated with the vertical dances Bandaloop is creating for the project. Interactions between the two mediums of dance and video will mirror those on the street. Video will respond to and be triggered by the dancers’ movements, and dancers will respond to video, with each medium having moments of full independence to allow focus on a single image. Point of view cameras will be mounted on the dancers, emphasizing intimate moments.
People interested in the Mid-Market district/Civic Center are asked to contribute content by answering the following questions:
- What inspires you about the Mid-Market area?
- What challenges you about the Mid-Market area?
- What change do you want to see in the Mid-Market area?
Responses can be posted on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook @SFPublicCanvas using hashtag #sfpubliccanvas and @sfpubliccanvas.
