Japan Week is a summer cultural festival featuring performances, workshops & demonstrations in San Francisco Japantown.

Join us for a celebration of Japanese art and culture in the heart of the historic SF Japantown. Enjoy free workshops and performances with master artists from Japan, Chicago, and Brazil.

Japan Day

July 21, 2024, 1 – 5 pm
Studio Gen Stage, Hotel Kabuki Stage, Japan Center East Mall Stage

Enjoy free performances by:

  • Gen Taiko and Odori School
  • International Karate League
  • Sakura Ren folk dance
  • Okinawan dance and drums
  • Gintenkai / Tsukasa Taiko

WHERE IS THE 2024 FESTIVAL TAKING PLACE?

The outdoor stage is at Hotel Kabuki parking lot on Post street near Laguna Street. There is an entrance to the Japan Center East Mall from Hotel Kabuki parking lot where Studio Gen is next to the Go Club. There will be art and craft tables out front of Studio Gen (suite 505) from 3pm-5pm. Inside Studio Gen there are Washi Ningyo paper doll demonstration 1pm-2pm, origami workshop 2pm-3pm. In the front room of Studio Gen at 3pm will be gidayu shamisen and joruri storytelling in Japanese, 3:30pm Ozashiki shamisen which is chamber music for the cuisine house until 4pm. All the locations are in close proximity to Hotel Kabuki and easy to find from Hotel Kabuki parking lot.

Japantown Cultural Performing Arts Workshops

SUNDAYS

5:00 PM – 5:45 PM Beginning Taiko drumming

5:45 PM – 6:15 PM Odori dancing

6:15 PM – 7:15PM Shamisen music

7:15 PM – 8:15 PM Taiko drumming (Requires Instructor permission)

Join us in experiencing Japanese Cultural Arts. Enjoy our social setting in Japan Center East Mall, 2nd floor suite 505 Studio Gen space. Sunday classes featuring odori dance, shamisen music (bring your own instrument), taiko drumming. All classes require registration with Eventbrite.
