“Sundown Cinema” SF’s Outdoor Movie Night in the Park 2025

EVENT UPDATE: There are no upcoming events known for this event series - please check the organizer website for any updates.

After a brief hiatus, San Francisco’s beloved free outdoor movie series is back! Sundown Cinema, a cherished tradition since 2003, is returning this fall with two special screenings in the city’s favorite parks.

The series had been paused this year due to financial challenges, leaving many locals disappointed. But thankfully, The Standard couldn’t let this tradition disappear. Now, you can grab a blanket and once again enjoy films under the stars.

Two Nights, Two Classic Films

  • Thursday, Sept. 25 – La La Land at Dolores Park
Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling star in this modern classic about love, dreams, and jazz. Bring a blanket, grab a snack from a nearby food truck, and settle in for a cinematic night as the sun sets over Dolores Park. (Dusk is around 7:27 p.m.; official start times haven’t been announced yet.)

  • Thursday, Oct. 23 – Edward Scissorhands at the Presidio Civil War Parade Ground
Tim Burton’s magical tale starring Johnny Depp returns to the big screen in this enchanting outdoor setting. (Dusk falls around 6:48 p.m., and while the official screening time hasn’t been announced, it’s safe to plan for early evening.)

Both nights feature curated films alongside food trucks. Admission is free and open to all, but RSVPs are encouraged for a chance at special access to reserved seating near the screen.

While the 2025 series is smaller than past seasons, the return of Sundown Cinema is a worth celebrating.

RSVP and get ready to cozy up for two nights of movies under the stars.
