The California Writers Club (CWC) formed in 1909 when Jack London, George Sterling, Herman Whitaker, Ina Coolbrith, and others met for informal literary and artistic salons on lands that are today’s 500-acre Joaquin Miller Park in Oakland above Highway 13. The CWC is one of the nation’s oldest professional writing clubs in the nation. The CWC’s mission, going back to its incorporation in 1913, is to help educate writers of all levels in the craft of writing and marketing of their work.
