Faetopia: Pop-Up Week-Long Queer Arts Festival | 2013

Faetopia is a pop-up queer arts, ecology, theater and community center that runs June 21-28, 2013.

For the week before San Francisco Pride, over a hundred artists and collaborators will create a visionary space for the queer community in the long vacant Tower Records, next to Cafe Flore at Market St & Noe St (2286 Market St, to be exact).

  • During the day, Faetopia will host workshops, meditation, teach-ins, heart circles, erotic playshops, and more.
    Most daytime events are free.
  • At night, the arts reign supreme with theater, burlesque, live music, queer cinema, and, of course, plenty of drag.
Most nighttime events have a $10 suggested donation, but no one will be turned away due to lack of funds.

2:30–4 pm: Why Public Nudity?
Society says our bodies are: indecent, harmful, and ugly; yet our bodies unite us to each other and to the planet. Come explore the ins and outs of social nudity.

2:30–4 pm: Domestic Violence and the New Transgender Woman
This discussion will offer advice for how to deal with the domestic abuse aspects of transphobic overreaction, a prevailing condition that is hampering the lives of transgender men and women every day.

4–5:30 pm: Cunts for Fags
Featuring queer presenters, live models, and a safe space to ask questions, this workshop is the perfect opportunity for gay men to learn about vulvas, vaginas, clits, cunts, g-spots, inny-holes, bonus holes, cooters, tranny boners, clit boners, or whatever you call yours.

4:30–6:00 pm: Polyamory: Infinite Possibilities & Multiple Heartbreaks
This class is designed to unpack some of the more common models of nonmonogamous coupling, define terms to help ease communications, and encourage the dialogues necessary to help all partners get what they want out of their relationship.

5:30–7 pm: Faerie History
Murray, one of the founders of the first SF Faerie circle in 1975, will talk about how the Faeries evolved out of the early gay liberation movement and the culture of San Francisco in the ’70s.
