Fat Tuesday | Amoeba Music: Free In-Store Mini Concerts

Celebrate Carnaval at Amoeba San Francisco on a Mardi Gras Day with Brazilian and New Orleans musical treats. You will be dancing in the aisles to two of the favorite DJs from 3-6 pm.

  • 3 pm-4:30 pm: DJ Shona’s Dad (KPFA Programmer Joel Sachs) plays non-stop New Orleans get-down party favorites. Joel Sachs, aka DJ Shona’s Dad, began deejaying in 1965 and has been a radio and party DJ in SF since the early ’70s. He currently hosts Non-Fiction Music on KPFA in Berkeley during the wee hours of Thursday morning. He has spun at several of Amoeba’s Mardi Gras celebrations.
  • 4:30 pm-6 pm: DJ DJ (Afrofunk Experience) spins Brazilian deep cuts and Carnaval samba classics. DJ DJ is the nom-de-decks of composer-singer-guitarist David James (Afrofunk Experience, David James’s GPS). A longtime Brazilian music enthusiast, DJ has sought out records all over the globe, and is happy to share his treats.

Get 20% off all Dr. John and Caetano Veloso music & merch in store at Amoeba SF on Tuesday, March 5th only. (Discount not valid online. Offer good at Amoeba SF only.)
