Event Details

Due to COVID-19, this year’s Mardi Gras San Francisco Style will stream virtually throughout the Bay Area. The Village Project and our community partners will celebrate our Fat Tuesday in the Fillmore celebration through social media, i.e., Facebook Live and YouTube. Celebrating with a free blues concert, a second line processional, creative costumes, good food and colorful beads, the Village Project will host the 15th annual Mardi Gras, San Francisco Style on Tuesday on February 16th, at 6 pm.

This year’s celebration again opens with a free community blues concert, featuring blues songstress, Tia Carroll, along with Zydeco band, Andre Thierry. The New Orleans style festival will bring San Francisco’s historic Fillmore Music District to life with Zydeco & blues, a colorful family friendly carnival atmosphere, and a second line parade led by the Gumbo Band. Bay area award winning playwright and dancer, Robert Henry Johnson will serve as Grand Marshall! We will supply curbside, no contact meal pickups at Bruno’s with a New Orleans menu by Nia Soul, including wine and Champaign.

“Not only does our annual Mardi Gras celebration include what people look for in the traditional New Orleans celebrations, it continues to embrace the history of San Francisco’s Fillmore neighborhood — where music has been intertwined into the fabric of everyday life for more than 100 years.
