First-Ever “Fiber Fest” at SF’s Museum of Craft and Design (2025)

Fiber Fest is an engaging celebration of creativity, showcasing local artists from diverse disciplines, each offering hands-on projects for you to try. Dive into a day of hands-on learning with expert makers and explore the threads that unite us in the world of fiber arts.

Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced maker, visitors can try a wide range of fiber arts, including knitting, weaving, felting, crocheting, and embroidery.

Don’t miss Fiber Fest at the Museum of Craft and Design on March 15th, a day-long celebration of textile artistry inspired by their current exhibition, RugLife.

ACCESS HOUR
The 12-1 PM Access Hour is designed to prioritize access and inclusion in MCD’s public programs, specifically for members of the disability community, including those who are blind, low vision, and Autistic visitors. To help create a sensory-friendly space, attendance will be capped at 35 visitors.

Access hour opportunities include:

• A RugLife Descriptive Tour: 12:10 – 12:50pm
• Drop-In Activations: Creative Crochet and Embrace Embroidery
• To help with material and preparation, pre-registration is encouraged. Tickets include museum admission.

FIBER FEST ACTIVITIES INCLUDE:

A Knack of Knitting with Hannah Milstein
Multimedia artist and knitting wizz Hannah Milstein brings her expertise to MCD. Already a knitter? Bring your own yarn and talk shop! New to the craft? Pull up a chair, explore materials and processes, and join the tight-knit community.

Felted Fun with Risa Iwasaki Culbertson
Risa is a master felter and teacher, creating sculptures of all scales, sharing her knowledge through workshops, and exhibiting her work in galleries across SF. Dabble in Risa’s wacky, whimsical, and colorful world and walk away with a new creative obsession.

Creative Crochet with Zoë Edwards
Zoë Edwards brings her passion for crochet to Fiber Fest. If you’ve crocheted before, come learn about creating a color chart for intarsia – tapestry crochet techniques that depict text and patterns. If you’re new to crochet, come practice the building blocks and get inspired for future projects!

Embrace Embroidery
A favorite and a craft that can truly be done anywhere, embroidery allows you to create beautiful threaded artwork, mending garments, or embellish any outfit or accessory.

Tactile Treasure Punch Needle
Try your hand at punch needling while creating a community art piece that will travel with the exhibition, creating tactile touchpoints within the museums hosting RugLife.
