Event Details

The Cartoon Art Museum (CAM) proudly announces a special Filipino Komiks Marketplace featuring Bay Area cartoonists, illustrators, and publishers presented in conjunction with the exhibition Pinoy Power! A Celebration of Filipino Komiks from the Archipelago to the Bay. Exhibitors will showcase and sell comics, books, prints, and other works in the galleries where the museum exhibits are also on display. Artists will be tabling on Saturday, March 23rd, from 11am to 5pm.

This event is included as part of admission to the museum.

Exhibitors:

  • Donna Almendrala – Artist and illustrator whose works include the silent comics The Solstice Submarine and The Wanderer’s Guide to the Wilds. Her work is currently spotlighted in CAM’s Emerging Artist Showcase exhibition.
  • Arkipelago Books – San Francisco-based bookstore specializing in Filipino and Filipino American titles including comics.
  • Rina Ayuyang – Comics creator, podcaster, and nominee for Eisner, Harvey, and Ignatz awards. The New York Public Library recently named her Depression-era noir graphic novel The Man in the McIntosh Suit one of the Best Books of 2023 and a Top 10 Graphic Novel for Adults. Her art currently appears as part of CAM’s Pinoy Power! exhibition.
  • Nico Bocalan – Horror comics creator currently working on her first full-length graphic novel.
  • Amanda Castillo – Cartoonist, illustrator, and co-creator (w/Cameron Chittock) of the middle-grade fantasy graphic novel trilogy Mapmakers.
  • Trinidad Escobar – Comics creator, poet, and 2022 Ignatz Award nominee for Outstanding Collection (Arrive in My Hands) whose recent work includes the graphic memoir Crushed: Book One. Her art currently appears as part of CAM’s Pinoy Power! exhibition.
  • Kid Hero Productions – producers of the 2020 action comedy Lumpia With a Vengeance and comic book of the same name.
  • Sari-Sari Storybooks – Publisher of multilingual Filipino children’s books.
  • Xtine Tiñoso – Designer and illustrator with a background in print, film, and gaming.

About the Comics Marketplace
The Comics Marketplace is a new recurring mini-expo event providing opportunities for the Cartoon Art Museum to partner with different communities and segments of the population to offer a space for artists and vendors to share and sell their work, and to be able to network with each other while engaging with museum visitors.
