Event Details

Rediscovered at auction in 1984 and authored by Mrs. Abby Fisher, What Mrs. Fisher Knows About Old Southern Cooking, Pickles, Preserves, etc., had been forgotten for a century. It is now believed to be the second cookbook published by an African American and the first by a freed woman of color. Details of Mrs. Fisher’s life had previously been limited to what she had shared in her book’s preface. In this presentation, new research will shine a brighter light over her life history, as well as that of her husband, Alexander, in Mobile, Alabama and in San Francisco.

Presented by Evelyn Rose, PharmD, founder and Director of the Glen Park Neighborhoods History Project. Email | Facebook | Twitter
