Join Flickr for a photowalk on the man-made Treasure Island in the middle of San Francisco Bay. The island provides for spectacular views of the city and the bay, as well as a great vantage point to see construction work on the new East span of the Bay Bridge.
Built in 1936, it’s first major job was to host the World’s fair in 1939-40, and has served in its past as a Naval base and as a location for many movie and TV shoots (notably ‘Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade’), and has a collection of spectacular urban ruins and abandoned naval buildings and equipment.
The plan is to meet downtown at the temporary Transbay Terminal and catch the 108 Muni bus over to Treasure Island (the stop is on Beale St, between Folsom St. and Howard St.).
