“Foglifter” Spring 2021 LGBTQ+ Author Event Celebration

Foglifter—created by and for LGBTQ+ writers and readers—continues the San Francisco Bay Area’s tradition of groundbreaking queer and trans writing, with an emphasis on publishing those multi-marginalized (BIPOC, youth, elders, and people with disabilities). Our biannual journal features the widest possible range of forms, with an emphasis on transgressive, risky, challenging subject matter, innovative formal choices, and work that pushes the boundaries of what writing can do. By putting extraordinary queer and trans writers into conversation, we uplift a growing community of LGBTQ+ readers and writers and carve out space in the larger literary community for voices that have historically been silenced.

Jaime Balboa’s writing has been published in The Timberline Review, The Write Launch, Hobart, Fictive Dream, Lunch Ticket, Streetlight Magazine, and elsewhere. An editor for Flash Fiction Magazine, he lives in Los Angeles.

Jody Chan is a writer, drummer, organizer, and therapist based in Toronto. They are the author of haunt (Damaged Goods Press), all our futures (PANK), and sick, winner of the 2018 St. Lawrence Book Award. They can be found online at https://www.jodychan.com/ and offline in bookstores or dog parks.

Téa Franco is a fiction writer based in Ohio. She is a triple libra, which means she has never made a decision in her life, so sometimes she writes poetry as well. She has poems and stories in or forthcoming in Barrelhouse Magazine, Barren Magazine, Dreams Walking, and others.

Donika Kelly is the author of the chapbook AVIARIUM (fivehundred places) and the full- length collections THE RENUNCIATIONS (Graywolf 2021) and BESTIARY (Graywolf). BESTIARY is the winner of the Cave Canem Poetry Prize, a Hurston/Wright Legacy Award for Poetry, and the Kate Tufts Discovery Award. A Cave Canem graduate fellow and member of the collective Poets at the End of the World, she currently lives in Iowa City and is an assistant professor at the University of Iowa.

N/A Oparah is a queer, first-generation Nigerian-American writer and artist from Atlanta, GA. Though she calls Oakland, Ca home, she is currently based in the UK where she is studying towards a PhD focused on the role of interactive and experimental narratives on mental health and self concept. Bryan Okwesili (he/him) is a queer Nigerian storyteller and poet keen on telling diverse African queer stories. He is a 2020 Pushcart nominee. His works appear and are forthcoming in SmokeLong Quarterly, Shift Mag, Brittle Paper, Praxis Mag, and elsewhere. He is currently a student of Law at the University of Calabar, Calabar.
