Bowling Pins, Reborn: Second Frame Turns Alley Waste Into Art

What happens to a bowling pin after it’s taken one too many hits? Usually, not much. But on Friday, April 24 over 30 local artists are giving them a second life.

Second Frame, a two-night art exhibition at Mission Bowling Club, takes the scuffed, retired pins you’d expect to end up in a landfill and hands them off to artists instead. The resulting works span painting, sculpture, and mixed media, highlighting both the diversity of the local arts scene and the potential of reclaimed materials.

The show runs Friday, April 24 and Saturday, April 25, The opening reception will be held on Friday, April 24 from 7:00–9:00 PM, inviting guests to experience the intersection of art, sustainability, and community inside a working bowling alley.

There’s no single style here. Some artists lean painterly, others go sculptural, others get weird with it. The only rule: start with a bowling pin and take it somewhere new.

All pieces will be available for purchase, with the majority of proceeds going directly to the artists. Select works will remain on view in the space after the event — though the main experience is very much a “be there” moment.
