Watercolors have been a long history at HVAW; among a variety of workshops, the plein-air watercolor workshop taught by Lucia Gonnella in our garden was a favorite. When the pandemic hit, we pivoted to a Zoom format, where the workshop gained a strong following and has continued twice monthly since April 2020.

Lucia Gonnella, a plein-air painter originally from Italy, shows work in galleries around the Bay Area and internationally. Her work is featured in this show, as is that of four other workshop participants: Sarah Young, a Hayes Valley watercolor painter; Sandi Palmer, from the Sacramento area; Rene Rodriguez, who has exhibited all over the Bay Area; and Barbara Early, who works in mixed media figure drawing, and also organizes HVAW and hosts the watercolor workshop.    We also invited local watercolorist Saul Levy, who often makes his colorful paintings while bartending at Bimbo’s 365, and Taylor Emerson, whose scrap textile pieces are reminiscent of the movement of waterfalls.  Co-Curated by Duncan Dobson
