Event Details

There’s a lot of kind-hearted folks in this city by the bay but Danny Gabriner of La Victoria Bakery is in the pantheon of kind folks.

Every Monday, he bakes and then gives away hundreds of free bagels on 24th and Mission. The giveaway starts at 8am Mondays and the handmade and boiled bagels usually runs out by 3pm.

Whereas the Mexican panadería usually sells Mexican chocolate and sweet breads, Gabriner has taken to giving away free bagels for the past year, after quitting “bullshit” work at CNET.com and starting Sour Flour, a baking business that sells goods to local stores.

Gabriner spoke to a reporter at MissionLOC@L about why he does Free Bagel Monday: “Most people have never had a fresh bagel,” says Gabriner, who eats a fresh one every day. “I would like everyone to have one.” And now everyone can.
