Free Classic Movie Night at The Magick Lantern | East Bay

The Magick Lantern is a small movie theater is the cute little town of Point Richmond in the East Bay. They show many independent new movies, as well as some vintage picks hand-chosen by its proprietor.

Thursday is Classics Night when they show quirky old movies with no admission charge at all.

Heiress Anne Baxter is living the good life in her luxurious Spanish villa overlooking the Mediterranean; that is, until one day when a total stranger (Richard Todd) shows up, claiming to be her late brother (killed in a car wreck a year earlier). He’s a fraud, of course, but he knows everything about their family history, has a dozen pieces of I.D. to prove that he’s who he says he is, and announces that he intends to live at the villa as long as he likes–a declaration which fills Baxter with terror when she slowly comes to the conclusion that her “brother” is planning to murder her.

Cleverly scripted, Chase A Crooked Shadow is a taut cat-and-mouse Hitchcockian suspense-thriller (Hitchcock himself tried and failed to get the film rights) that builds to an ingenious and utterly unexpected climax.
