About the Exhibition
Birdhouse Gallery is pleased to present “the things we hold, the things we carry”, a solo exhibition of new work by San Francisco artist Catherine Lipsetz Dauer 11/6-12/7/2025 that expands her ongoing exploration of time’s marks, pace and passage through reflections on the sentimentality, attachments and misconceptions that result from collecting and keeping objects over long periods. The exhibition features a group of large-scale paintings inspired by looking deeply at the beauty and mystery of a singular, treasured object from the artist’s personal collection.
About Artist Catherine Lipsetz Dauer
Inspired by nature, place and the mark of time, artist Catherine Lipsetz Dauer’s studio and plein air practice includes painting, drawing, photography and mixed media. Contemplative observation is intrinsic to Catherine’s artistic process in all mediums, as are the embrace of happenstance, a curiosity about the relationship between site and sentiment, and an abiding quest for visual harmony. Catherine’s work has been exhibited in California, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Washington, Illinois and Pennsylvania. She earned her BA in Art History from University of Cincinnati and studied Interdisciplinary Studio Art at San Francisco Art Institute. In 2024 she co-founded Sounding Board Collective, a group of female artists based in the San Francisco Bay Area who share and explore the intellectual life of contemporary art practice.
