Event Details

The Navy is planning two free bus tours of the environmental cleanup sites at Hunters Point Naval Shipyard (HPNS). These tours typically happen only twice a year giving you access to an area normally closed to the public.

After Pacific Island nuclear bomb tests in the 1940s irradiated ships were brought back to Hunters point and in 1989 the site was declared a Superfund cleanup site.

This guided tours allow members of the community to visit the site to learn about the cleanup and ask questions of the Navy. Prior to boarding the bus, participants meet inside HPNS Building 101 where the Navy will provide information about the Shipyard cleanup and sites on the tour.

  • Please plan for 2 hours to participate in the tour.
  • Reservations are required for the 10:00 am or 1:00 pm tour.
  • Please note this is an environmental clean-up tour, and that this is not an active shipyard.
