Join us for a fun and friendly Volunteer Kickoff Party as we launch a new large-scale art project — right here in the Mission! No experience necessary — just curiosity, creativity, and a willingness to try something new.
You’ll:
Get hands-on with early build activities
🧰 Learn new skills in a collaborative environment
🤝 Meet like-minded people who love making cool stuff
Be part of a community art project that will grow into something spectacular
This is the first step in creating Namasakaram — a massive, interactive sculpture being built by local nonprofit Looking Up Arts, heading to Burning Man this summer. Think of it like a public art project meets adult summer camp: lots of teamwork, laughter, music, snacks, and plenty of sawdust. We will be building all summer long, and you’ll have the opportunity to work on foam, fiberglass, painting, grinding, sanding, and more! No experience necessary, just a desire to learn and create!
Namaskaram is a sculpture of a figure extending an Indian welcoming gesture, signifying that the divine in me bows to the divine in you. Celebrating and exploring a part of everyday life, the gesture embodies many meanings, including hospitality, respect, peace, and empathy.
