Free Shakespeare in the Park returns for its 44th season with Antony and Cleopatra, bringing free outdoor theater to parks around the Bay Area from July through September.

Presented by San Francisco Shakespeare Festival and directed by Katja Rivera, Antony and Cleopatra explores the conflict between duty and desire against the backdrop of the Roman Empire and Egypt, and how personal relationships can collide with political power.

Since 1983, SF Shakes has brought free Shakespeare performances to audiences around the Bay Area. No tickets or Shakespeare experience are required – just show up and enjoy the show.

The 2026 production travels to Cupertino’s Memorial Park, Redwood City’s Red Morton Park, and two San Francisco locations: McLaren Park’s Jerry Garcia Amphitheater and Sue Bierman Park along the Embarcadero.

Show length: Approximately 90 minutes with no intermission.

  • Location: Jerry Garcia Amphitheater in McLaren Park, off John F. Shelley Dr. between Cambridge St. and Mansell St. The amphitheater is set back in the woods and isn’t visible from the street, so look for signs for the amphitheater parking lots.
  • Free Parking: Free public parking is available. The main parking lot is southeast of the amphitheater off John F. Shelley Dr. Look for the “Amphitheater Parking” sign. From the lot, it’s about a 1/4-mile walk along the path to the amphitheater.
  • There are also a limited number of accessible parking spaces in the small lot immediately northeast of the amphitheater. A proper placard is required. Street parking is also available along John F. Shelley Dr.
  • Public Transit: Glen Park and Balboa Park BART stations are each about 2 miles away. The 29-Sunset bus connects with Balboa Park BART and stops near McLaren Park. The westbound stop is at Mansell St. and University St.; the eastbound stop is at Mansell St. and Visitacion Ave.

  • Location: Sue Bierman Park is at Washington and Drumm streets, just north of Embarcadero Plaza and across from the Ferry Building.
  • $10 Parking Deal: SF Shakes attendees can get a voucher for discounted flat-rate $10 parking at any of the four Embarcadero Center parking garages (1EC, 2EC, 3EC or 4EC). Stop by the SF Shakes hospitality table to pick up your voucher before leaving. Vouchers and parking spaces are first-come, first-served.
  • Additional paid parking is available at the outdoor Washington Lot directly across Washington St., along with metered street parking throughout the neighborhood.
  • Public Transit: Embarcadero BART is about four blocks away on Market St. Muni’s F-Market historic streetcar stops at Embarcadero & Ferry Building, about one block south of the park.
