Russian Hill has a long and fascinating history going back to he early 1800s. We will use its many stairways to explore the neighborhood, uncover its history and highlight several of the interesting characters who helped shape the neighborhood and San Francisco. Fortunately, many of the architectural gems on Russian Hill survived the 1906 fires. These include some of the earliest houses by Willis Polk, and other houses based on the Arts and Crafts architectural movement. On our walk, we will get to view several of these houses and discuss their historical significance. And, of course, there are wonderful public gardens and parks, and great views of North Beach and the rest of San Francisco at almost every turn. These walks are intended to provide wonderful views of the city, some history and a good work out. They are not for the faint of heart. You should be reasonably fit to get the maximum enjoyment. Please note; maximum of 5 persons per tour. Register at my website to reserve a place.
