Event Details

Celebrate the return of the Sun with astronomers and friends at the Chávez / Huerta Solar Calendar. Mark the changing of the seasons and share a moment of reflection in community as the sun sets on another orbit of our fragile and beautiful planet.

Ancient astronomical and cultural significance of the Winter Solstice and global festivals of earth’s resting season will be observed. Together we are reminded of the strength in one of Cesar Chávez’s four virtues, tolerance and non violence.

Led by Alan Gould and Bryan Mendez from the Lawrence Hall of Science, UCB, this annual ritual is repeated annually right here in Berkeley.
