Event Details

Friday Nights at the de Young offers a variety of interdisciplinary arts programs, including live music, poetry, films, dance, tours, talks and more. Season Eight is every Friday night from March 30 – November 23, 2012.

This weekly after-hours art “happening” changes every week, but typically includes a mix of live music, dance performances, film screenings, panel discussions, lectures, artist demonstrations, special performances, hands-on art activities and more. Plus the observation tower is open until 8:15pm.

June 15, 2012 – Celebrate King Kamehameha Day | Art Making for Everyone with Museum Artists

5pm – In the Kimball Education Gallery join artists Andy Diaz Hope and Laurel Roth as they spend a month in the Artist Studio to collaborate on a new tapestry. Visitors’ input will be incorporated into the final design.

6pm – In the museum lobby artists create a themed project every week for all to enjoy. Be creative and take your own creation home with you.

6pm – In the Wilsey Court Celebrate King Kamehameha Day
He Inoa No Kalākaua (in honor of Hawaiian King Kalākaua), celebrate King Kamehameha Day, a day honoring the Hawaiian monarchy, with a special tribute to King Kalākaua.

Children’s performance in the sculpture garden by Nā Lei Hulu I Ka Wēkiu under the direction of Kumu Hula Patrick Makuakāne.

Live Music of Hawaii performed by Faith Ako.
