Friday Nights at the de Young offers a variety of interdisciplinary arts programs, including live music, poetry, films, dance, tours, talks and more. Season Eight is every Friday night from March 30 – November 23, 2012.

This weekly after-hours art “happening” changes every week, but typically includes a mix of live music, dance performances, film screenings, panel discussions, lectures, artist demonstrations, special performances, hands-on art activities and more. Plus the observation tower is open until 8:15pm.

June 8, 2012: A Night of Photography & Dares
Celebrating Real to Real: Photographs from the Traina Collection & The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk 

5:00 p.m. Join artists Andy Diaz Hope and Laurel Roth as they spend a month in the Artist Studio to collaborate on a new tapestry. Visitors’ input will be incorporated into the final design.

5:00 p.m. Playing the Field: Photography and Collecting today – Panel Discussion including:

  • Julian Cox, curator, Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco
  • Kevin Moore, art historian and advisor for the Traina Collection
  • Daniel Lefcourt, artist
  • Alec Soth, artist

6:30–8:45 p.m. Live music by Stellamara
Internationally acclaimed world music ensemble Stellamara premiers new electro-acoustic sets emphasizing their signature passionate rhythms and Eastern melodies with dramatic orchestral sections, otherworldly ambience, and deep bass grooves.

7:00 p.m. Film: Madonna Truth or Dare

Also look out for corset presentation by Dark Garden Corsetry.
